New Rambo circus also signed an affidavit promising never to use animals again with the intervention of police and the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). Before this, APOs were able to show how animals were being forced to perform without the required permission from the Board in violation of the Performing Animals (Registration) Rules, 2001. This prompted the Board to write to the Mumbai Suburban District collector urging action.
APOs also showed how horses were being tethered without food, water, or adequate shelter and the dogs were being forced to jump through rings and perform other unnatural tricks.
Even as the dogs are on their way to a life free of torture, years of forced training has conditioned them to believe that all humans are stick wielding brutes who derive enjoyment from their unnatural tricks. It is a huge challenge to get such animals out of their tendency to perform tricks.
Animals are often forced to perform unnatural tricks through negative conditioning. Even after rescue, these dogs retain signs of pyschological stress.
