Dehradun: Dehradun police on Sunday arrested three people for allegedly slaughtering cows and selling the meat in Patel Nagar police station area.
Police said that the accused, Munir Qureshi, 30, Tanweer Qureshi, 27, and Moim Hussain, 27, all residents of Mehuwala Mafi in Dehradun, were nabbed with cow meat and knives used for slaughtering the animals.
Speaking to TOI, senior sub-inspector Vijay Singh said, “We received information on Saturday that a few people were illegally slaughtering cows and then selling the meat. A team was formed to look into the complaint. On Sunday, a police team arrested three people with the cow meat.” All three have been booked under relevant sections of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Arms Act, police said.
A separate case under Uttarakhand Protection of Cow Progeny Act, 2007 had been registered in Vasant Vihar police station on Saturday after cow heads were found in the area.
