350kg of beef seized, slaughterhouses sealed

Vadodara police on Wednesday raided slaughterhouses in Khatkivad and seized hundreds of kilograms of beef from the Navayard area. Police were called to the spot by animal activist Neha Patel, who said illegal slaughterhouses were operating in the area. Police said they raided six shops and seized the meat.

A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team from Surat was called to examine the meat. According to the police, Dr D N Patel confirmed that 348kg of meat found in three shops was beef. The cops seized the beef and sealed the shops. Police also seized 17 buffaloes. Three persons, identified as Rafiq Qureshi, Hajrababa Qureshi and Shahbuddin Qureshi, have been booked under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Act, 2017.

 During the course of the police raids, Neha Patel, who is the secretary of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), had a verbal spat with Sayajigunjinspector Haresh Vora. Patel said she was trying to help police and that Vora didn’t cooperate with her.
