Blue Cross rescues abandoned cattle

CHENNAI: Blue Crossvolunteers on Tuesday rescued two cows and two calves that were forced to starve in a village near Acharapakkam, around 90km from Chennai.

The cattle were safely transported to Blue Cross shelter in Velachery here.

Blue Cross general manager Dawn Williams said cattle owner P Selvam had some problems with his neighbours in Kurangal village. He escaped from the village a week ago, abandoning the cattle.

The cattle had not been given food and drinking water since then.

On Monday, a team from Blue Cross attempted to rescue the cattle. However, the villagers refused to allow the team to rescue the animals.
On Tuesday, Blue Cross volunteers convinced the villagers and rescued the cattle.
The condition of a six-month-old calf was very bad. It was being treated at the Blue Cross shelter, he said.
