HYDERABAD: Forest department officials intensified their efforts to capture the big cats terrorising villagers near the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) campuses in Patancheru and Yacharam Mandal in Rangareddy district.
The Forest Department officials, who found pug marks of the elusive leopard at Yacharam and photo evidence at ICRISAT, said that they have increased the number of cameras, cage traps, and have also increased night vigil to capture the big cats and relocate them.
“Our officials are on their toes to capture the leopards. Although the presence of these animals has been confirmed in both the places, they are yet to be captured.
“About 10 more cameras and 3 cage traps have been set up at ICRISAT. In all, there are 20 cameras at different locations inside the campus. We have deployed special teams at Yacharam as well,” said A Shankaran, senior officer (wildlife), Telangana State Forest Department.
