Veganism is no longer a fringe movement – it’s getting more mainstream and being endorsed by more people each day. After politicians, actors and musicians adopting the lifestyle and spreading the message, social media influencers are joining in and asking their followers to try it out. Splitsvilla and Roadies contestant Rohan Hingorani has partnered with FIAPO (Federation Of Indian Animal Protection Organizations) to promote veganism through the 21 Day Compassion Challenge, an initiative by FIAPO that encourages people to try a vegan diet for 3 weeks.
The 21 Day Vegan Challenge
FIAPO is designed to help to transition vegans and the vegan-curious by giving them the tools and support they need to try veganism for 21 days. There’s a free starter kit with recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and beverages, customized for the desi palate.
Rohan’s Journey With Veganism
Rohan has been on a vegan diet since 2013 and is always looking to educate people and help them make the switch to a greener diet – scroll through his social media feeds, and you’ll come across several posts where he encourages people to consider the lifestyle.
“I feel blessed to have discovered veganism early on in my life and I am keen to help people make the switch to a greener diet. I hope that many people take up the 21 day vegan pledge and benefit from this diet.”
Along with doing an Instagram LIVE for his 272k followers, Rohan also challenged three of his friends and social media influencers to try vegan for 21 days – Samyuktha Hegde, Shruti Sinha, and MTV VJ Nikhil Chinapa.
With more influencers joining in, the initiative is bound to get more traction, and, thanks to the rise of vegan alternatives in the market, there is also a palpable increase in the percentage of people who know about veganism and its benefits. FIAPO’s Executive Director, Ms. Varda Mehrotra, comments- “FIAPO is thrilled to have the support of Rohan and his friends who have taken up the challenge to try vegan for 21 days. This year is going to be extremely special for veganism in India, and it’s exciting to have so many supporters with us. The #21DayCompassionChallenge is going to be a serious topic of discussion soon like the Ice Bucket Challenge got people talking about ALS, we hope today’s youth realizes that veganism is good for the animals, for the environment and for us. We have our fingers crossed!”
