This Diwali easier on animals: Vets

Vikas Luthra, founder director, Furever Friends Foundation, which runs a free 24-hour ambulance service on Diwali, received five cases from Panchkula and Zirakpur. The dogs were taken to the Sector 3 hospital in Panchkula. He said two pets were reported for anxiety attack and are under treatment. Despite these cases, he said, the number of cases and their severity was lesser than usual.
UT joint director (animal husbandry) Dr Kanwarjit Singh said, “No case was reported at night and the situation was much improved. The Society for Prevention of Cruelty To Animals (SPCA) received six routine calls.”

UT animal husbandry department extended the ambulance service till midnight on Diwali. The emergency OPD of the veterinary hospital in Sector 22 worked round the clock.

Till last year, Dr Singh said, they received cases of eye injuries, blisters, deafness, shock and anxiety among animals on Diwali.
