Three-year-old leopard rescued from Dabhoi

VADODARA: A three-year-old male leopard was rescued by forest from Dabhoi on Sunday evening. This was the second leopard to be rescued from the same region within a month’s time.
The forest department had been receiving information about the sighting of leopard from locals living in and around Nanderiya village in Dabhoi since past couple of days. The department had placed four cages in Dabhoi and Karjan region to rescue the animal.
On Sunday, the leopard was trapped and later released in forest areas. “Leopards are seen in these areas, but it would have ventured around the village in search of food. However, it had not hunted any animals or attacked any human being,” said conservator of forest S Maniswara Raja.
Sources said that villagers were afraid following the recent incidents of attacks on human beings by the leopard in Devgadh Bariya. Last week when the leopard was seen a couple of times, the villagers asked the forest department to trap it. It was on November 22 that another three-year-old male leopard was rescued from the same region after it had hunted cattle and other animals owned by villagers.
