HYDERABAD: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) lone MLA Raja Singh and his aides on Monday handed over a truck full of cows to Shamirpet police and demanded strict action against illegal slaughtering of cows.
“When BJP workers noticed tree branches on top of a truck and the container of the truck was sealed from all sides. They stooped it doubting it to be illegal transportation of cows for slaughtering and called me. When we checked the vehicle, cows, calves and few bulls were inside,” said T Raja Singh.
The animals were tied with ropes and were stacked mercilessly one over the other inside the vehicle. A total of 62 animals were rescued on Monday and were sent to nearby gaushalas.
According to the police, a case has been booked and the driver has been arrested. “A case has been booked under section five and, six of AP Prohibition of Cow Slaughter and Animal Preservation Act 1977,” said B Naveen Reddy, circle inspector of Shamirpet Police Station.
A legislator from Goshamahal also demanded the state government to implement Supreme Court law. “Cows are being transported illegally to Bahadurpura and slaughterhouses and Chengicherla slaughterhouse. Our job is to hand over the culprits to cops but the government should implement the Supreme Court law. Unlike previous years culprits are coming up with new ways to transport cows illegally,” said Singh.
