People for Animals work to rescue and rehabilitate sick and needy animals. They set up and run shelters, ambulance services, sterilization programs, conduct adoption drives for rescued animals, treatment camps and disaster rescue missions for animals. They conduct education programs in schools and fight cases in court.
The presence of organizations such as PFA ensures a level of safety and discipline in the city with respect to street animals. It’s very upsetting to notice how even after such selfless noble work there is a section of society which is against the organizations working for animal rights movement.
In another effort to uphold animal protection in Trivandrum, FIAPO worked alongside PFA Trivandrum as they received a show cause notice from the local panchayat asking them to shut operations in the city. In support of PFA, FIAPO has written to authorities about the importance of their work requested other organizations to support them in this struggle. Furthermore, FIAPO issued a press release demanding media to cover both sides of the story and managed to get coverage not only in the Times of India, but also in Deccan Chronicle by the same journalist who had earlier filed the story of the show cause notice. FIAPO will continue to help PFA Trivandrum through this and urge other organisations to step in and do the same.
