SPCA, Gujarat was registered in 1993 by Mrs. Snehal Bhavsar. The trust is now being managed by Mr. Raj Bhavsar independently after Mrs. Snehal passed away last year. The trust works for the protection of animal rights. They are involved in various activities, namely rescuing domestic, as well as wild animals like monkeys, snakes, crocodiles etc. They also impart education in various schools and colleges about protection of animals. They have been actively involved in curbing the widespread trading of wild animals across various areas.
When FIAPO reached out to Mr. Raj Bhavsar from SPCA, he informed about the poor conditions of the Sayaji Baug Zoo. He also shared his concerns over how the animals residing in the zoo were not being provided the basic amenities like clean food or clear drinking water. We reached out to the authorities in charge of the zoo and portrayed our indignation at the poor living conditions of the animals. We also reached out to them via telephone and spoke about the issue. The zoo in charge told us that action will be taken at the earliest and Mr. Raj would be kept in the loop throughout the proceedings. We hope prompt action is taken in this case and the conditions of the zoo improve in the future.
