The Railway Board has proposed to serve only vegetarian food on its premises including all trains and stations on October 2, to celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

This decision is a great initiative to promote the principle of vegetarianism which Mahatma Gandhi strongly espoused and is an ethical step to showcase the virtues of compassion Ahimsa, not just amongst fellow humans but animals as well.

FIAPO expresses its heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Railways and proposes them to implement the principles of Ahimsa not just on Gandhi Jayanti but on all days of the week. Railways should seek to exclude not only animal products, but also by products and serve meals that are wholly plant based.
