Sanctified Terra for Rueful Animals Society (STRAY) is a registered Animal Welfare Organization founded on 1st April, 2011. The organization is based in Kolkata, West Bengal.
STRAY’s mission is to awaken responsibility towards animals and environment in people. This nonprofit grass roots organization is dedicated towards establishing and defending the rights of all non – human living creatures. STRAY is committed towards helping animals in need with emergency treatment and care. Animals suffering from illnesses as a result of negligence, improper nutrition and cruelty are tended to by the organisation.
STRAY emphasizes on creating awareness about animals in the general public and humane education. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. The organization believes awareness is a strong tool to make people realize their duty towards animals. STRAY feels that love & compassion cannot be built in one day, but if we try to inculcate these feelings in our future generations, we can make the world a dream come true, where we live with animals in peace and harmony. With the support of staff and volunteers, STRAY has started awareness programmes in different parts of Kolkata from 2012. They try to convey the simple fact is that while it takes nothing from us to show love and compassion for an animal, the simple act can make a world of difference for an abused animal.
STRAY provides necessary medical treatment to sick and injured animals. The organization started its own clinic for animals in 2013, in Jadavpur, with the dream of providing the best possible treatment to animals. The clinic has experienced veterinary doctors, expert surgeons and helping Para vets who treat animals with utmost care. The facilities at the clinic are available for both street animals as well as pets.
Other programmes of the organization are regular anti-rabies vaccination drives; assistance for adoption of animals that have been rescued; first aid camps for injured animals; educating the masses, especially school children against cruelty to animals, and environment education programmes.
STRAY also conducts sterilization programmes to keep the population of street dogs in control. The organization believes in being self-sufficient to the extent possible.
