A novelist published by Pan Macmillan, Ms. Townend is an Australian Animal Rights Activist, renowned author, and artist. She first came to India in 1975 and finally moved there in 1990, to run an animal shelter in Jaipur called ‘Help in Suffering’. She is the founder of Working for Animals Inc, an NGO set up in Australia to raise funds for animal welfare in India.
