Senior Manager: Fundraising (Institutions and Major Donors)

FIAPO is looking for a Senior Manager - Fundraising (Institutions and Major Donors) with a proven track record in raising funds from Institutional sources (trusts, foundations, and companies) and high net worth individual donors.

What’s expected

  • The person will implement a strategy to raise 80% of the organisation’s annual budget from Indian trusts, foundations, corporations, and HNIs. The person will be driven by the desire to make the federation self-reliant on domestic sources of income within the next two years.

  • They will be responsible end to end - for systematically researching new opportunities, generating leads, developing and making pitches, closing deals, building and maintaining relationships with donors, reporting, and managing budgets.

  • Since FIAPO is a federation, the right person will work to not just raise funds for FIAPO’s work, but be a brand ambassador for animal welfare and rights, so as to increase the total amount of funding available to the whole animal protection sector.

  • The right person will have exceptional communication skills, verbal, written, and social media. Since much of this work involves talking to people, the person must - in addition to loving animals - be interested in and enjoy talking to people.

  • The right person will be expected to travel extensively - both in the city where they are located and across the country.

  • Since most of the team at FIAPO works remotely, the person must also be highly self-driven, extremely disciplined, and deliver results. The person will be expected to hit the ground running and produce results from the first month of joining.

    • Conduct research into potential opportunities and build a database of current and potential institutional and HNI donors, and research pathways to access different categories of donors

    • Develop a deep understanding of FIAPO’s work: be clear that FIAPO is a federation and not an implementing organisation. The person will position and raise funds for the federation’s work, and not seek to change the federation to what donors offer.

    • Research donor funding interests and patterns and develop pitches, concept notes, and grant proposals

    • Engage with potential institutional donors, set up meetings, and make pitches to donors, drawing in relevant members of FIAPO’s leadership as required

    • Keep potential institutional donors engaged by sending relevant materials from time to time

    • Work closely with the programme and communications teams to ensure that our proposals accurately reflect needs, budgets, and capacity, and that reporting is on point

  • Pitching and closing funding deals:

    • Travel extensively to meet donors within the city and across India

    • Make pitches, present concepts, write proposals, and close grant/ donation deals

  • Donor Reporting:

    • Maintain a reporting calendar to ensure that timeline reports go out to all institutional donors

    • Write high quality donor reports keeping with FIAPO’s standards and work closely with the communications team to get them designed

    • Work closely with the communications team to ensure that programme achievements are adequately represented in our newsletters, social media, and other media

    • Ensure the balancing of project budgets and provision of utilisation certificates to donors

  • Identify New Opportunities and Relationships:

    • Identify new opportunities to engage corporations, such as getting teams to run in marathons or other events

    • Attend, track, and represent FIAPO at key events

    • Identify intersectional areas where FIAPO can work, building relationships with key organisations in these spaces

  • Build a Volunteer Force:

    • Since FIAPO’s own team is small, leverage our partner volunteer organisations such as We Do Good, iVolunteer, eiVolve, etc. to build teams of volunteers for fundraising

  • Take the Lead in Events:

    • Identify opportunities for events and brainstorm with FIAPO’s leadership on participation

  • Budget & Resource Management:

    • Work within the fundraising team’s budget, track expenses and budget heads

    • Analyse performance against agreed key performance indicators, and produce monthly reports

    • Maintain updated internal reporting documents as agreed

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in fundraising in the non-profit sector, with ideally, an interest in animal rights and welfare

    • Proven experience in having raised funds from institutions and/or corporations
